According to many, the church of Panagia Paraportiani is the pride of Mykonos. It is also one of the most impressive monuments of the Aegean and a rare example of popular church architecture. The church is actually a two-storey complex consisting of five churches. Its name literally means "Our Lady of the Postern Gate" in Greek, as its entrance was found in the side gate of the entrance of the medieval castle of Chora. The construction had started between the 16th and 17th century and completed over the years through successive works of anonymous artists which ended up in this marvelous construction of asymmetric volumes, blending harmoniously into the landscape. Four out of the five churches of the complex are located on the ground floor. The fifth-and the homonymous one- is set just above them.
The most popular neighborhood of the island is the bay of Little Venice (formerly known as Skarpa). It is a place of a distinct Mykonian architecture, so unique that seems to resemble to a miniature of the famous Italian city of Venice.
It is located on the northern part of the island. Panormos is a carefree type of beach since the days when full moon parties were organized here. It is lon, and not packed with sun loungers or umbrellas. It offers a beach volley court.
Delos is Apollo’s sacred island, located right in the middle of the group island of Cyclades. It constitutes an important archaeological site and by many, it is the actual cause of the great growth of Mykonos.
